Should 61. end A7?

Richard Price's avatar

I also have a possible for that ending A7.

Amanda Spielman's avatar

me too

Edrith's avatar

Yes, you are correct.

Rachael's avatar

Yay!

Minor typo: missing space in "T3V6" in question 1.

Rachael's avatar

Also wondering if "63" in q16 is an error, or if it means a 3-digit number beginning with 6.

Edrith's avatar

63 in Q16 is intended.

David's avatar

it should be 62. re-read your instructions!

Edrith's avatar

Pretty sure 63 is correct here!

David's avatar

OK so 3 is the "number of letters" (as per instructions) in that word?

Edrith's avatar

Yes. 'Characters' would I guess be more accurate.

David's avatar

No it wouldn't, there are other answers with apostrophes in the words that don't count towards the total.

The instructions should be "letters or digits". Anything else is not "less accurate", its plainly incorrect.

I sometimes wish we could do this pub-quiz style, with no research allowed. I'm just doing a first pass now without looking anything up. There are some I've solved that I'm proud of knowing but that could easily be found online, and conversely there are lots I don't know but that others probably do and that I'll just look up later.

Edrith's avatar

Yes! Sadly impossible to enforce (though I guess one could take 20-30 of the more doable questions and use it as a pub/church/community quiz).

From conversations, I think a lot of people do it as you do, to get the satisfaction of seeing what they can get 'raw', plus then the puzzling to deduce the others.

Should

62 start with P5?

And perhaps

66 starts C10?

Amanda Spielman's avatar

66 first word has a number of spellings

62 no but . . .

Edrith's avatar

In both cases the printed version is the version intended.

As Amanda says, there are various spellings of the first word of 66; I have picked one in common use with no claim to it being the most 'authentic'.

Simon Pearce's avatar

Should 6 end with G8 instead of G7?

Edrith's avatar

Yes - good spot.

Richard Price's avatar

For 6 on the pdf I downloaded it ends C6 M6.

Are you talking about 8 instead?

Or maybe I have a wrong version...

Edrith's avatar

Yes, Simon is referring to Q8 - see my master errata below.

Simon Pearce's avatar

My apologies, yes, it was 8 not 6.

Amanda Spielman's avatar

Should 2 end R6 not W8?

Edrith's avatar

Annoyingly, yes. I've been quoting that incorrectly for decades!

Soozy's avatar

I'd argue that 85 should really be T7 not T3

Edrith's avatar

One could argue that, certainly, but I will stick with T3!

Edrith's avatar

Thank you to all eagle-eyed readers.

To summarise the errata, five were spotted in the original version of the quiz, in Qs 2, 8, 56, 59 and 61. The correct versions of these questions should be:

Q2: M7 F4 H3 M7 W4 U8 R6

Q8: P9 C6 B2 G8

Q47: M6 B5 B5 E6

Q56: J6 J4 T7 & G6 P5 T7

Q59: Z4 & C6

Q61: H8 S3 O2 Z4 A3 A7

The current version of the PDF available to download now shows the correct version.

This is a quiz I write in my spare time as a hobby.

If you don't like it, don't do it, and if you can't be polite then don't comment.

Grace's avatar

Should 41 be double M8 and C6?

Edrith's avatar

Surprisingly, yes! (If you are thinking of the person I think you are thinking of, look them up on wikipedia...)

Grace's avatar

Oh gosh of course!!!! Thank you!!
