Influencing Higher Education Policy
A new book, Influencing Higher Education Policy: A Professional Guide to Making an Impact goes on sale today.
Edited by the superb duo Debbie Mcvittie (Editor of Wonkhe) and Ant Bagshaw (formerly of Wonkhe), the book shares insights from professionals working in the field of higher education policy to provide useful, practical, and implementable information. It considers:
what it means to work in policy and public affairs in higher education;
the increased complexity and fluidity of higher education politics;
regulatory reforms in higher education;
the position of the student in policy discourses.
I'm honoured to have contributed a chapter to the book, written while I was out of government, that looks at HE policy making from a government (departmental) perspective. Many of the other contributors are personal and professional colleagues from across the sector, all with detailed, first-hand experience, including Chris Hale and Will Hammonds of UUK, my current colleague Diana Beech, former SpAds Josie Cluer and Andy Westwood, former NUS President Megan Dunn and many more. Having had the opportunity to read their contributions in draft, I can assure you it is well worth doing so!
